A friend of mine , did a good research on the availability of food for eveyone. When he asked a person as to why are you working so hard?, he replied, he is working for food. At this my friend said, but you will get food, even if you dont work. The person asked how. My friend replied, have you done any crime like murder, theft etc.? The man said no. My friend said so you are very good person compared to many criminals, still the criminals get their food on time.(http://casualblogs.wordpress.com/category/daal-roti-for-dinner-and-don-as-neighbour-in-jail/)(http://casualblogs.wordpress.com/category/in-jail-haldiram-boss-to-earn-rs-21-a-day-as-gardener/) So, why do you think , if you dont work , you will not get food?. That man realised his mistake.
Similarly, we all give the excuse that we are doing everything so restlessly, because if we dont, we will not get food. But, the fact is God is your security with regards to the availability of food for you.
A saying by a Sant maluk das ji goes like this ‘ Ajgar kare na chakri, panchi kare na kaam, Daas maluka keh gaye sab ke daata raam’. (A python isn’t servant to anyone, nor do birds go for a job, yet God provides them all). God Even provides food for the insects hiding beneath stones.
Maluk das ji has not said this statement , just like that, he did a full experiment. He decided to first test God on this statement. He went into a deep jungle, so that nobody can find him, and therefore how will God be able to feed him. He sat on a tree. After sometimes he found a villager crossing the jungle has put down the food he was carrying , as his village was near and he decided not to carry the load of food further. At this Maluk Das ji thought that although God has brought food , so close to him, but he wont have it. So he stayed on the tree. After sometime a group of robbers came and found that food. Their leader thought it must be the plan of the villagers to kill him, as the food may be poisoned. He asked his fellow men to search for any man in and around. And one of them pointed towards maluk das on the tree. The leader asked maluk to come down and eat the food. Maluk das climbed down the tree but said he wont eat the food as he is taking God’s test. At this the leader slapped maluk and made him eat the whole food immediately . They, all left after feeding him. Now, maluk das realised that God is very particular about providing food for all , just like a mother makes sure that her children takes food on time.
Thats why Maluk Das gave the statement ‘ Ajgar kare na chakri, panchi kare na kaam, Daas manuka keh gaye sab ke daata raam’.
This does not mean one should leave one’s job and test God. As, our job is also provided by God and it serves some important purpose in this drama set by God. But, we should definately leave the burden that our work is providing us food. And, we should work joyfully instead of worrying and fearing that if we loose our job we wont get food. And, i feel this statement is a overall guideline for us to understand that , since God is providing our food and other basic necessities and even all luxuries, so we must not burden ourselves with worries for such needs. We must trust God and his love for us . We need to enjoy and celebrate our existence more than anything else, as we need to realise our status that we are the children of GOD : )
