R Ravimohan, a top official of Reliance Industries  Limited, died on Monday night following a cardiac arrest. Ravimohan, 52, is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.He was a chemical engineer and completed the Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School.After a stint in Crisil as chairman, Ravimohan joined the Mukesh Ambani-led company as executive director in August, RIL spokesperson said.Ravimohan was closely involved with the modernisation of Indian financial system and pioneered the era of electronic stock markets in the country.He was involved in critical policy assignments and was a member of the Primary Market Advisory Committee of Securities and Exchange Board of India, Technical Advisory Committee and Financial Stability and Stern Test Assessment of Committee of Reserve Bank of India  and Raghuram Rajan Committee on Financial Sector Reforms.Ravimohan, who was handling the proposed acquisition of global petrochemical major LyondellBasell Industries, was rushed to hospital after he suffered a cardiac arrest while taking a walk outside his office.

Drunken driving kills two in Rajabazar

KOLKATA: Two youths died after their car rammed into a stationary mini-truck near the Rajabazar crossing in the wee hours of Sunday. Initial probe suggests the driver and the passengers were drunk.  

Police said Lake Town resident Kishen Bagaria (29) was driving the car at a high speed around 4.30 am. They were heading north. Kishen’s friend Jimmy Thakkar of Girish Park was in the front seat. Two other friends, Bimal Bajaj and Sumit Daga, sat behind with Kishen’s brother Kamal. Police suspect the group was returning from a pub or a hotel and was drunk.  

Kishen rammed his car into a mini-truck that was parked on the left side of the road. He died on the spot.  

Locals rushed to the accident site and rescued the four others with the help of police. Kishen was declared dead at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital. Jimmy succumbed to his injuries on Sunday afternoon. The three others were being treated at different private hospitals.  

Police said the accident could have had worse consequences. “The driver lost control and may have even mowed down people on the pavement. Luckily, no such thing happened,” an official said.

IIM-Indore professor murdered 

Mystery surrounds the murder of an assistant professor at her residence on the Indian Institute of Management campus here.Amrata Pancholi, 32, was found on Friday morning in her ground floor flat, where she was staying alone, the police said.A preliminary probe showed signs of a struggle and indicated that she was stabbed with a sharp-edged weapon at 12 places.The attacker had rummaged through her house but the motive behind the murder could not be ascertained by the police.Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of her been killed by someone known to her.
Sources close to her family claimed she was receiving “unwanted calls” for past two months.

US actress Brittany Murphy dies at age 32 

US actress Brittany Murphy, of Sin City, 8 Mile and Just Married, died on Sunday at age 32 after going into cardiac arrest, according to media reports.Fox News broadcaster reported that the husband of the 32-year-old actress had called emergency services for help when she fell ill.

Air France crash survivor dies in car accident  

An Italian woman who did not board the Air France flight that crashed in the Atlantic, killing all its 228 passengers, has died in a car accident.  

Johanna Ganthaler, a pensioner from the northern Italian province of Bolzano-Bozen, and her husband Kurt missed the June 1 Air France flight 447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris after arriving late at the airport.  

Johanna and Kurt Ganthaler were vacationing in Brazil, when they missed the ill-fated Air France flight and were forced to catch a different flight later that day.  

Just days later after returning to Europe, Johanna lost her life when their car went off the road near the Austrian city of Kufstein.
