86-yr-old kept in a room for over 20 days:KARWAR: Old age and ill-health became a curse for him. This 86-year-old man was confined in a dark bare room in a lodge here for more than 20 days.Nobody wanted to go near him because he emanated bad odour.Vasant Godbole was kept in the ground floor without bath and medical treatment allegedly by the lodge owner.But on Sunday, tipped off by a call, some social activists led by Madhav Naik went to the lodge and got him released with the help of the police.The heart-rending tale of Godbole unfolds thus. Godbole who hails from Kolhapur in Maharashtra worked in the lodge as manager for 40 years. He said his wife died 10 years ago and he was living alone. He said the lodge owner asked him to find a job because he became old. He went to Belgaum a few days back but returned to Karwar as nobody gave him work as he was too old. When he went to the lodge again, the lodge owner kept him confined in a room. When the police and the media persons visited the lodge, there was foul smellcoming out of Godbole’s room. There was filth everywhere and it looked like as if the room hadn’t been cleaned for many days. The room was bare but for a chair.Lodge owner Devidas Vernekar agreed that Godbole worked for him for 40 years. He claimed that the staff had admitted Godbole to a hospital a few days back when he fell ill. But Godbole escaped from the hospital and returned to the lodge. Godbole has a daughter in Dombivili in Mumbai but she is not ready to take him with her, claimed Vernekar. In conclusion , therefore, i am not against marriage, just that it is, not my cup of tea. Atleast i dont need it today in the light of the wisdom. And, my advice for all is to be aware of the facts in the light of the wisdom first, before u take the big step. I feel, 99% would not take the big step if he or she is aware of the wisdom (Remember, IGNORANCE OF LAW IS NOT AN EXCUSE).And, one who has already taken the step must understand that “Many marriages would be better if the husband and wife clearly understood that they are on the same side”

Sri Sri Paramhansa Yogananda’s views on marriage:
Once, when i was very young, my family tried to persuade me to marry. I saw the prospective bride, and thought she had the most beautiful face i had ever seen. i heard God say, “Why don’t you marry?” But i said to Him, “Are you not more wonderful? I do not want that face. i want You who are behind that face!” Years later, I saw her beauty had faded with age, but my joy in God had increased a thousandfold.
Marriage is for those who do not feel inwardly the renunciant’s conviction that God alone is sufficient. But those who are married are not barred from finding God —- the purpose of the divine friendship of marriage is to help each other toward that end. In fact, no marriage can be completely succesful without God’d love. It takes unconditional love to make the marital relationship harmonious. What hades husbands and wives make of their lives without that love, and without trust in each other.
Couples in even the closest relationships are very secretive and keep things to themselves. In the beginning they share everything, but when they start to have differences and quarrels, they withdraw and put a wall around themselves. Where has their love gone? Two young people say they will die if they can not be together. But if suddenly one of them became old and gray, where would that love be? What is it that they love, the soul? No, it is the face.
The point is, your first goal must be to know God. When you have found Him, when your heart is in tune with him, then whatever He tells you to do is all right. But if you entangle yourself without first finding God, you have chosen the path of error.
You are alone on this earth and nobody will pay for your mistakes but yourself. So why should you follow the mistakes of others? You must live your life as you know you should live it. Don’t keep feeding your bad habits with fresh actions that strengthen them.

When I was a student in the university in my final master’s course, one girl was very much interested in me. She was a beautiful girl, but my interest was not in women at that time. I was crazy in search of God! After the examinations, when she was leaving the university…. She had waited — I knew it — she had waited and waited for me to approach her. That is the usual way, that the man approaches the woman; it is graceful for the woman not to approach the man.
Strange idea… I don’t understand. Whoever approaches, it is graceful. If fact, whoever initiates is courageous. When we were leaving the university she said, “Now there is no chance.” She took me aside and said, “For two years continuously I have been waiting. Can’t we be together for our whole lives? I love you.”
I said, “If you love me, then please leave me alone. I also love you, that’s why I am leaving you alone — because I know what has been happening in the name of love.
People are becoming imprisoned, chained; they lose all their joy, life becomes a drag. There was a Muslim gentleman. His name was Razzab Khaan. He had set off to marry. On the way to his would-be-bride’s home lay the ashram or cottage of a saint, Daado Dayaal jee. While he was on his way to the bride’s place, it just struck him why not have a glimpse of the saint and seek his blessings before proceeding for the auspicious ceremony so that the married life would be full of harmony, peace & pleasure. When he entered the cottage, he found Daadu Dayaal jee sitting in meditation. So he sat there waiting for his meditation to be over. The baaraat i.e. the marriage party which had been waiting outside was getting anxious over the delay. However, Razzab jee was waiting, calm & composed. Finally when the saint’s meditation was over and he got up, Razzab jee paid his due respects. Seeing him in bridegroom’s appearance, Daadu Dayaal jee uttered this couplet:
“Razzab te gajjab kiyaa, sir par baandhaa mour,
Aaye the hari bhajan ko, chale narak kee or”(Razzab, why did you do this to yourself? You are wearing the bridegroom’s crown over your head? Hey! You had come to this world for meditation & worship, and what is this? – you have set your feet on the way to hell!)“
See the magic of sanskaras? Saint Daadoo Dayaal said only this much, but it had a very grave impact on Razzab jee. He immediately took off the bridegroom’s headgear and dress, went outside and handed them over to his brother, and asked him to go and marry the girl lest his family members get upset. And he himself? He stayed back there only at the service of the Guru, Daado Dayaal jee. Subsequently, he himself turned out to be a great sage. This is what is sanskara. You see, if you try to rub a matchstick which is damp, it will not burn, break though it may, however hard you might try. But if you have, on the other hand, a dry matchstick, it instantly catches fire, even on rubbing it once only. Likewise, if you try to counsel a mind without right sanskaras, go on sermonizing as much as you wish; it would not have any significant impact. But what about a mind with right sanskaras? Razzab jee instantly bid adieu to the sensual pleasures and made his mind clean.
Sahajobaaee, the disciple of Charandaas jee Mahaaraaj, was another similar person. Her marriage ceremony had just been over. Preparations were afoot to send her off to her in-laws’ house. Her hair was being done. She was being meticulously dressed & decorated. Her friends were busy doing her make-up. It was then only, shall we say by the quirk of the fate, that Charandaas jee appeared on the scene. Looking at Sahajobaaee whose make-up was in progress, he remarked,
(O Sahajo! This world is not your permanent abode. You have to undertake the voyage to the Master, the Supreme Lord of the universe. Would you trade your head for such a fickle & ephemeral conjugal bliss?)
No sooner than these words had been uttered, she put off all items of make-up & decoration, and gave up the very idea of going to her in-laws’ place. Instead, she got herself married to a life of meditation and grew up, in due course of time, into a great devotee and saint herself. Such miraculous transformations are the results of highly elevated sanskaras! We, too, can purify our sanskaras by making efforts in the right direction. Sanskaras do not befall you, or come to you, as it were, overnight or readymade. They are formed, processed and purified over a number of cycles of births; only such persons’ lives, who have made such endeavours in their past lives, get so easily and instantly metamorphosed with a slight swapping of the matchstick, in the form of attending satsang, or coming into the blissful company of saints.
outcome of karma of your past life, for which no effort is required.So enjoy it, but know how to enjoy it. Even the Lord concedes that when the basic necessities in life are missing, then it is naturalfor one to experience suffering. True suffering is, not having any air to breathe, or food to eat. These are the basic necessities in life – without which the body cannot survive. Nowadays people have so many different things available to them and yet they do not enjoy them. They are involved in something else. They do not enjoy what is in front of them. When a wealthy businessman sits to dine, instead of enjoying his meal, he is preoccupied with his business. The fool! He does not even know what he eats.Everything is like this.
